Stephen Bau has worked for over 30 years as a designer with a breadth of experience that has involved major shifts in the tools and technologies of the art and craft of design. He is a CGD Certified Designer and has been a member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada since 1994. With experience in design for video, branding, advertising, print and web, he has adapted to the constantly changing environment of the communications industry. After graduating from Kwantlen College's Graphic and Visual Design program, he started his design career in 1988 at Doug Fleming Graphics in Vancouver. He opened a sole proprietorship in 1991 as Bauhouse Visual Communications. He expanded his experience to video production as a designer at Force Four Productions, then established himself over the next 7 years as art director at Design One Graphics Group in Langley. He then went on to revive Bauhouse Visual Communications in Abbotsford with his freelance work creating brand, print and web design for four years. For six years until the end of 2012, he was Senior Designer at Domain7, a web agency with offices in Abbotsford, Vancouver, Seattle and Washington DC. His recent work at Domain7 provided opportunities to improve his skills as a designer who codes by taking on large experimental projects that involve responsive web design, developing systems to solve business process challenges, and supporting the open source web development community, specifically the Symphony CMS
community. This has included trips to London and Germany to connect with members of the community and to participate in conferences and workshops with leading practitioners to expand his understanding of current trends in web design approaches and technologies.
