Main Job Responsibilities
Performs editorial functions for didactic and interpretive texts on a variety of topics and with different levels of complexity.
As a member of our team, collaborates with our senior Interpretive Content Developer and Senior Designers on exhibition and interpretive structure.
Works with subject matter experts to refine the content of the exhibition, identifying and challenging the significance of the narrative, objects, and contextual information.
Participates in the writing, developmental editing, and proofing of exhibition text, didactic graphics, and media.
Ensures that text and visual presentations clearly communicate agreed-upon project narratives to the intended audience(s) and meet established goals.
Advocates for the audience(s); strives to create a positive, inclusive experience for all.
Recommends content strategies to target specific key audiences as defined in the content brief.
Assists with the development of the project brief along with curators, experts, and other team members to identify key messages and objects, text and didactic panels, as well as scope for digital media.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; English, History, and/or Museum Studies strongly preferred.
3‐5 years of relevant museum or educational experience
Bilingual (French / English) or Government of Canada certification in translation is not required, but would be considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Ability to effectively advocate for inclusivity and diverse audiences
Experience shaping scholarly or technical material to be engaging and accessible to non-specialist audiences
Comfortable working in a Mac-based environment
Ability to edit electronically in Microsoft Word
Ability to set priorities, and juggle challenging demands in a dynamic workflow
Excellent communication skills
Ability to think creatively and strategically and use new technologies to apply to the Museum / Interpretive Centre Visitor Experience
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Ability to work collaboratively with design team and clients
Familiarity with local / Canadian history and geography
