GDC Community by Design Award recipients are recognized for demonstrating leadership at all stages of their career, and for advancing the goals of the society while giving back to the GDC community. We recognize these award recipients of being our ambassadors of living by the society’s values of Community by Design.

Pauline Lai was presented with the award on March 12, 2020.

She is a UX/UI designer specializing in cross-cultural design for web and mobile development. She has worked with businesses, professionals, entrepreneurs and startups for the past 20 years. Currently, she's also teaching in the Interaction Design and Communication Design Program at Emily Carr University @EmilyCarrU. She has been involved with GDC/BC for 16 years, first as a volunteer, then as Admin Chair and for the past 12 years as Web Communication Chair. Recently she's been working on a series of UX workshops for GDC to help designers transit to UX. Pauline is also a community builder who has been helping organize Creative Mornings and DesignX events.

“I’m so honoured and grateful that I have had the opportunity to work with all the talented GDC executive team members during the years. With GDC, I’m not only making friends or mentors, I feel like I’ve joined a big family. Looking forward to working with the new team and having great events in the coming years.” — Pauline Lai
