Lead Is Alive!
May 03
Canadian Mennonite University (500 Shaftesbury Blvd.), Room C-344
Printers Peter Bartl (a Swiss master printer) and Jane Merks will be bringing two tabletop platen presses to CMU to teach anyone interested in the art of printing the old way, where the printer has immediate control over the entire process. They describe the workshop as follows: “We will use these upright presses for printing cards or coasters. Peter covers basic hand typesetting with lead type, locking up the chase, inking up the press and of course, dissing type and cleanup. Students will work in pairs to produce a short run of cards or coasters that will then be distributed among the class. Bring along some ideas and sayings.” Cost: $75, including materials. Workshop enrollment is limited to 12. Please register by calling Shirley Thiessen at 487-3300 or through the CMU website at www.cmu.ca/church-community/07_coned.html#lead Please bring a bag lunch. Coffee will be provided. Read more about pb+j press at members.shaw.ca/pbjpress/ Read more about this workshop at www.cmu.ca/news/LeadIsAlive.html
