Monadnock's Astrolite Silk for GDC Report
2006/07 Annual Report

2006/07 Annual Report

Monadnock's Astrolite Silk 100 lb cover and 80 lb text were chosen as the perfect canvas for the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada’s (GDC) forthcoming Annual Report.

“The 2006-2007 annual report tells a clear story of why every qualified graphic designer should belong and communicates to corporate sponsors that the GDC is an extremely viable and necessary organization that they can feel proud to take part in,” said designer Catharine Bradbury MGDC, of Bradbury Branding & Design.

“Intelligent and creative is probably the best way to sum up our “financial lingo with a twist” theme for the report,” said Bradbury. “We want to portray the value the GDC offers, and how, after 50-plus years, it is becoming even more valuable and offering even more “assets” to its members.

The design team decided to use financial terminology as a way to build on the idea of value: profits, pay-offs, bonuses, gains – words to entice people to read about what their “return on investment” in the GDC really is. To keep the language from straying into dry and boring territory, the tone was kept informal and they added personal quotes from GDC members on their reasons for being a part of Canada’s only national organization certifying professional designers.

“We chose Monadnock's Astrolite Silk because it is a high performance sheet on press,” said project coordinator Peggy Cady. “Using 6 Pantone colours, with heavy ink coverage, we needed to minimize show-through and highlight the colour. The colours we use are similar to CMYK, echo the graphic design industry and also create a bold report with maximum impact. We felt that Astrolite’s brilliant whiteness was needed to enhance the colour quality and give an added punch to our message. We also appreciate the fact that Astrolite is elemental chlorine free.”

The report will be distributed to all GDC members, and made available to GDC affiliates Société des designers graphiques du Québec (SDGQ) and University and College Designers Association (UCDA) this spring.
